‘Heroes’ is a science fiction based adventure drama series that deals with the supernatural powers of people. It premiered on The NBC Network on 25th September 2006. The series has been created by Tim Kring and is produced by Universal Media Studios together with Tailwind Productions. The executive producers of the series are Tim Kring, Dennis Hammer, Allan Arkush and Greg Beeman. The series has completed two successful seasons and is currently running in its third season. A total of 47 episodes of the series have been aired till date.

The series chronicles the lives of people across the globe who think themselves to be similar to everybody else until one day they realize that they possess supernatural powers. The series provides an insight into how these people deal with this new truth that changes their lives forever. From being ordinary people they move on to become people who have the capability to save other people’s lives by preventing many disasters. As they try to learn the extent of their powers, the lives of these heroes get intertwined and they come to realize the fact that they have been bestowed with the special powers so that they can help save the Earth.

The series revolves around the lives of Isaac Mendez who is a twenty-eight year old drug addict from New York and has the ability to paint the future, Peter Petrelli a male nurse in his 30’s who has the ability to fly and Claire Bennet a seventeen year old cheerleader from Texas who challenges death at every turn. In addition there is Niki Sanders who is a 33-year-old single mother from Las Vegas and begins seeing strange things in mirrors, while her husband is thirty one years old D.L.Hawkins, who is a fugitive and has the capability to walk through walls. Then there is Matt Parkman a beat cop from Los Angeles who has the ability to hear what other people think and last but not the least is Hiro Nakamura who is a twenty four year old office worker from Japan who can make time stand still.

The other important characters in the series are Nathan Petrelli who besides being the brother of Peter Petrelli is a politician as well. There is also Mr. Bennet who unknown to his daughter Claire lives a double life where he is deeply associated with the heroes and lastly there is Micah, the only son of Niki and D.L.Hawkins.

‘Heroes’ is one of the few television shows which have been equally appreciated by both the critics as well as the audiences. It has been nominated for 45 different awards which include eleven Emmy Award nominations and two Golden Globe nominations. It has also won 18 other awards including a People’s Choice Award and two Teen Choice Awards.
