Masi Oka is a Japanese American actor and a digital effects artist. He was only a month old when his parents divorced and later his mother moved to Los Angeles when he was just six years old. Masi has never met his father and has been raised by his single mother. He attended The Mirman School at elementary level and completed his high school studies from Harvard-Westlake School. In 1997, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in computer science and mathematics and a minor in theatre arts, from Brown University. Reportedly, he has an intelligent quotient of 189. His first job after completing studies was as a CGI artist at Industrial Light & Magic which is a motion picture visual special effects company owned by George Lucas. He dreamt about winning an Oscar for technical work on a motion picture.

Masi first tried his hands at acting in the year 2000. He has since then appeared in 23 television shows and 11 movies. On television he has acted in shows like Sabrina, The Teenage Witch, Luis, Scrubs, House of the Dead 2, Without a Trace, Robot Chicken and Reno 911 etc., besides playing the role of Hiro Nakamura in Heroes. He has acted in the movies Austin Powers in Goldmember, Chester's Big Night, One Sung Hero, Get Smart and Get Smart's Bruce and Lloyd Out of Control etc. In addition he has also done the special effects of 11 movies including Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace, Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones, Hulk, Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest etc. Masi has also been seen as himself on shows like Live With Regis and Kathie Lee, Heroes Unmasked, Entertainment Tonight, Late Night With Conan O’Brien, Late Show With David Letterman and The Jamie Kennedy Experiment etc. He has also been nominated for 5 different awards including one Golden Globe and one Emmy Award besides winning 2 other awards.

In Heroes, he plays the role of Hiro Nakamura. He is an ordinary office goer from Japan who upon discovering his special powers readily accepts them instead of rejecting the truth. He has the special power of space and time manipulation which helps him to travel between times easily. He is a cheerful and optimistic person who dreams of saving the world with his abilities. However, he has misguided notions of how the world functions and depends severely on Ando's help to perform normal daily activities.
